4 . . . The Wall Street Journal

This is the big media mention I teased a few days ago. It’s an unbelievable write-up and a crazy video, both discussing me and the book. They even sent a photographer to my house to take shots of me for the piece. Too bad they didn’t use one of the many with Bella in it.

This is the print article. It’ll be on the front page of the Arts section tomorrow.

  1. Wow! What an amazing pair! Not Jennifer Lawrence…I’m talking about the article and the video. That write up was spectacular. It makes me want to go out and buy yet another copy of Wool.

You can just feel the tide start to shift. Maybe you should send Sue Grafton a signed copy of this article. ;-)

    1. Rusty – last sentence made me spit pepsi on the keyboard. mahahahahahahah

  3. G ‘Day,
I am just off to my monthly book club and I will be trying hard to get you on our reading list. Your book was a wonderful summer read. I loved the characters and the community in which they lived. I couldn’t put the book down. I have just realised reading your website you have more for me to read over this coming weekend. yAY . I hope you make a motza, sell millions of books and don’t forget to to find time to write more.
If you are every in Australia….. Look us up in Canberra . I know a great book store that loves book launches.

    1. I’m coming to Australia in April for a bit of a tour. :)

  4. Jennifer Lawrence would make a perfect Juliette. Then again, she would make a perfect everybody.

When I was reading “Wool” I just couldn’t stop thinking of Evangeline Lilly as Juliette.

  5. What a great write-up. Congrats!

If there could be any improvement.. I wish it would have concentrated more on the risks you had to take as well as all the work and dedication involved. The “missing” story is twofold: 1: the rapidity of success as well as the incredulity of it… framed by self-doubt and fear. and 2: the critical supportive role that Bella played (and, uh hum, also Amber).

  7. Great article, Hugh. One for the scrapbook.

    Stay humble, my friend.

  8. Congratulations! Can’t wait to see you on Sunday!

  9. Has any publisher offered a similar deal to other indepenants? Keep the digital rights and they will do all print?

  10. Is it creepy that, even though I don’t know you, your success makes me really proud of you? I hope not, because it’s sincerely thrilling for me to watch the well-deserved acclaim go to you and your brilliant books.

The books not even published yet! Guess she didn’t know about the UK, Germany, Australia and all the other places you have been running off to.

Good PR for the book, congratulations!

Now I just want the next installment.

I mean Hugh, does it melt your brain that people are talking about you like this? Journalists … WSJ ones at that. This would just blow me away!

Just read the Wool series in the last 2 days. It was fantastic! I love seeing the shift in traditional publishing that writers like you are causing. It was time for a change. Thank you for many enjoyable hours!

  14. OK, so I’m reading Friday’s paper on Monday, you can’t imagine my surprise when I saw Hugh Howey’s name on the front page. I thought, it can’t be, but it has to be, and there you are, a color picture no less in a black and white paper. Congratulations Hugh!! You were finishing up Molly Fyde last I heard, wow, hard work, determination, an American success story, and it couldn’t have happened to more down to earth good guy. Drop me a line if you’re heading up I85 sometime, cold beer waiting on ya.

  15. First of all I would like to say superb blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your head before writing. I have had a hard time clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out there. I truly do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or hints? Kudos!
