Book Recommendation

I just finished The Prophet of Bones by Ted Kosmatka. Oh, my. This guy can write. Just about every paragraph has one of those sentences you want to read over and over to squeeze all the goodness out. The science in the story is amazing. There’s an “alternate Earth” setup that I won’t ruin, because it’s revealed in such a sublime manner.

Just read the damn thing. It comes out April 2nd. There’ll be a film; I can feel it.

  1. Thanks for the recommendation, Hugh! I’ll pick it up. Nothing like word of mouth to move a good book.

Working away myself on another short in the Wooliverse… thanks for letting us play in your sandbox.

Not to take away from the book – which sounds intriguing – but how can the Kindle edition be higher priced than the hardcover?

Is this the publisher trying to drive physical sales over digital during the book’s release period?

    1. Yup. Publishers are being idiotic about e-book pricing. They just don’t get it.

  3. I am working my way through a pile of your recommendations. I just finished Unbroken and I’m well into No Shortcuts To The Top. I have pre-ordered this one so that I will have something yo read on Tuesday.

  4. What publishers don’t realize is ebook purchase FREQUENTLY leads to paper copies so we can give as gifts……(OK, that explains why I bought 4 copies of Wool to give away)

  5. Okay – I totally appreciate the recommendation but had to call out the DUST progress bar being at 100% today. Granted, I didn’t look yesterday, but today IS April Fool’s day…

Hugh? You messing around with us? ; )

  6. In other news, I don’t know if its some cruel April Fool’s joke or not…. but is DUST really finished!?!?!?!

  7. DUST is done??? You’re holding out on us, Hugh. Last time I checked you were something like 27% done. And then it’s 100% complete. I just hope this isn’t an April Fool’s joke. (IT BETTER NOT BE!!!)

    1. There’s a 100% chance it is an April Fools joke. (Just my assessment).

        1. Yes, very. Seriously, though, any ETA yet?

    2. Done only means that he’s finished writing the story. It doesn’t mean that it’s ready for release. Now we have to wait for the proofreading and editing process, before Amber gets sick of seeing the manuscript and Bella gives her approval for him to sent it into the ether. ; >)

  8. *sigh* just what I need- another book. I still have to find time to read the second Remaining book. $12.99 tis a bit steep. I’ve seen this happen before, where the physical book is much more expensive than the eBook. Drives. Me. Crazy.

    1. It’s dumb. I think they lower the ebook price when the paperback comes out. Again: dumb. Everyone should do what S&S did with Wool and release the paperback and hardback simultaneously.

  9. Thanks for the recommendation. I just bought it. I’m in some serious short fiction mood. Having my time ripped up into slots of desperation, does that to you.

  10. I see I posted my comment under the wrong post. It was meant to be under the one featuring Lightspeed magazine. This is what happens when you try to squeeze in too much into one of those time slots. Sorry Hugh.

  11. Will definitely pick this book up. I noticed Daniel Wilson also posted a raving review of this on the Amazon omnivoracious daily book blog. Would love any other recommendations. I am reading Nocturnal now which Hugh, I think? recommended and I am enjoying that.
