I don’t shoot a lot of video, but I’m excited about this for those who do. An incredible piece of technology. It’s going to enable indie filmmakers to be creative and come up with stunning shots that would’ve required them mortgaging a house before.

Sony has also been doing some very interesting stuff with their E-Mount camcorders. They have a regular movie camera form-factor and controls (vs. an SLR) so it’s easier to shoot video. And you can use either cheaper E-mount (a.k.a. NEX) lenses, or, via inexpensive adapters, mount pretty much every lens in existence, including rented professional lenses.
I have been thinking about when will independent filmmakers breakout in the same way indie writers have. after all ,one up loads their film to Createspace and then gets paid when someone either buys the DVD or watches it on Amazon prime? and then when a bunch of people watch it on Amazon someone buys the rights to show it in theaters.
I think that is a distinct possibility for the future.
I think it has to happen.
Wow! That was incredible. I don’t know anything about cameras or film, but I’ve watched a couple of documentaries on the challenges indie filmmakers face, and that video blew me away.

The art will be distributed electronically, knocking down one of the primary hurdles of indie movie making success. Exciting times ahead.
I would love to try this out and possibly add it to my growing mound of photography/videography gear. I’ve read it will be priced in the $7k-$15k range, so it will most likely be out of my price range, but I am sure rental fees will be reasonable.

Wow, VERY impressive. I’m not a filmmaker, but I get excited about any innovation that takes some power away from the private club of filthy rich “decision makers”. Whether it’s self-published authors or indie filmmakers, progress such as this is a very good thing.
