Some of the awesome art I’ve received from fans. They are posted as links so the page doesn’t take forever to load. Soon, I hope to add links where you can purchase prints directly from the artists. They’ll be the only ones profiting from these. The goal is to pass the indie love along!

So, when will these Wool books go on Audible audio versions?
I think in the next few weeks. Most of the recording is done!
Love the work that Jasper Scheurs has done!
I agree. Quite a few hours of high-quality work.
Fantastic! Great that you have offered these for other fans to view. I love all of them. It’s nice to see Jules’s face included by a fan; she’s exactly as I had imagined her. Thank you for your great books and sharing the fan art.
Where could one find a diagram or map of the Silo?? LOVE your writing!
I don’t know, but I am commenting so Mr. Howey has a higher chance of seeing this. I am very curious about this as well.
Just finished First Wool! Jules just as I imagined her thanks for posting. Wool is one of the best things I have ever read, damn and I am picky, so happy there are more. This needs to be made into a movie pronto!
Email Ridley Scott and tell him!
Ridley Scott I hope he’s not gonna mess this one up like he messed up “Prometheus” visually beautiful movie with horrible chopped up story line. I mean it was just awful in my opinion, so much potential… it was beautiful and yet so dumb. Wool have great story with lot’s of suspense and great characters… lets keep our fingers crossed I guess.
One question about wool, how come no lift or elevator something on a rope that people can pull… you can make rope out of hair (if supplies are short) imagine annual day of donating hair; that would lift communal spirit.
I thought the direction was great. But he had a messy script to work with. And WOOL probably won’t be directed by Ridley. Just produced. If it’s even made into something!
Hey just finished First Shift – Legacy. Absolutely loved it thank you so much. Great work of art, I already bought the second shift; gonna blast trough it over the holydays. Speaking of movies I would think that First shift would be much easier to make in to movie than Wool I mean it is more visually manageable if you know what I mean,.. as far as story goes Wool is just gripping…Check this episode of Mythbusters “Dumpster Diving” episode shows what happens to a diver in depth when air supply gets cut off. Once again thank you so much for your work.
Is it possible to get a copy of Wool Omnibus edition signed by you like the Molly Fyde books I have gotten???
Thanks
Wow, those are fabulous!
I was just wondering if there a tentative release date for the third shift? I love this series and find myself anxiously awaiting another installment.
End of January or early February, I hope!
Hugh, Just wanted my congratulations and thanks for the Wool/Shift series. It’s been awhile since I felt the need to tear thru a series of novels as I did these. Read them all within a week. Can’t wait for “Third Shift” and Wool 9!!! Keep up the great work and I’ll check out some of your other works while I bide my time for “3rd” and “9″. JC
I….. I’m speachless…. I really am. I just finished the Wool Omnibus and I was blown away. It was an incredibly captivating read. It has been a quite some time since a story grabbed ahold of me and pulled me in so deep that I felt like I was a part of it. What a pure writing style and wonderful characters that are so unique and alive. I really feel that this will become one of the classics, this isn’t part of the “fad lit” thats out her. This could be there with Brave New World or Fereinhieght 451. I wonder what sort of wool we all are living with today.
No way! It’s gotta be a fad. I’m sure of it.
I just finished Wool Omnibus.
I almost didn’t purchase this for my Kindle because after reading the free sample that Amazon delivered it really depressed me.
I kept telling my wife how depressing this was with Holston out there laying beside his wife on a hill in the wasteland.
The next day while at work I was still thinking about poor Holston and his wife!
After getting home later that evening I thought “In for a penny, in for a pound” and I went ahead and bought the book.
I’m glad I did now, it’s incredible!
Instead of a book of complete and utter sadness, it turned out to be a book of hope.
My 13 year old daughter asked how it compared to the Hunger Games, I told her it was better, and that she would dig this Jules character every bit as much as she does Katniss.
Thanks Hugh.
Thanks, man! I’m glad you stuck it out.
Just finished Wool Omnibus and looking for more! Such a fantastic book
On to First Shift next but not tonight. Dude, you don’t know what your doing to me its like four in the morning over here! I honestly could not put it down until it was done.
I think Nicole is making the case for casting Jewel Staite as Juliette in the movie!
Just finished reading the Omnibus edition, and I have to agree with Kendra about not putting it down – I was up until 6:00am this morning reading 1-4 and read 5 this evening. It’s a very compelling story, and I usually don’t care much for post-apocalyptic fiction. Looking forward to reading 6-9!
Haha, I am totally shocked that anyone can see Jewel Staite in that drawing (I did reference her though)…
Referenced??! Ha! It’s a portrait! And a damn good one too.
If I look for specific features, the nose and eyes certainly stand out, though the face is overall longer and the chin sharper. But, yeah, that’s Jewel. Even if you didn’t consciously mean it to be.

I’ve just read Wool and am a fan for life…I’ve never read science fiction before….not that I really would put it in that genre entirely….but I thought it was one of the best books I’ve ever read. I can’t wait for the next episode!! Thanks do much for writing such a fascinating story. I will be giving it to my 16 year old daughter to read as well add I know she’ll love it.
I hope I don’t exceed my character limit. I usually stick to the free books on Kindle. Very seldom does a story or author excite me. Even more seldom will I purchase a “book” that I can’t hold or stick on the bookshelf. Wool excited me. I’ve read them all so far, will be buying solid versions, too (no pulp – I have the chits for the quality stuff). Great work! Thanks for making the first one free and the rest affordable. Can’t wait for Dust.
Hugh, I just finished shift three and am now eagerly awaiting the release is dust. Meanwhile, I have been consuming your other works with gusto. It is nice to be able to read an author that doesn’t seem to be attached to a literary machine that would slow the release process of new material just to maximize profitability. What you have done here is very punk rock. You will probably be tempted to partake in more conventional methods as your fame and status grow as as an author. Do it, get yours, you deserve it. You have helped pave the way for future authors and readers alike, and I thank you!
Just finished Wool – my daughter gave it to me – a delightful tale!!!!
Hugh,
Wool is now my favorite book/series (thank you very much). It has taking the place of The Road and the Enders Game series which were my two favorite reads of all time, sort of sad really. Either way you are easily a god amongst writers. Thank you again.
No! I can’t replace Ender’s Game! Take it back!
Hi Hugh, listening to Wool audiobook, fab so far! I see from your calendar that you’re in the UK on Monday Feb 25th – any book-singings?
Thanks for a great story!
Book-signings, though singing would work too!
Yup. I’ll be doing a signing on Thursday of next week. And a Meet-Up on Sunday!
At secret locations?
On reading the first few chapters of Wool, I was slightly disheartened as to what I was being asked to believe in – all the characters being introduced were dying/been killed off but then as the tale unfolded, I realised we hadn’t met the true heroes of the silo yet. I haven’t really read anything like this before and found myself immersed in the most captivating world that made me ask myself – who would I be – what would I do if I was there? Interestingly, there are no outright moralistic dilemmas here posed to the reader, the characters set the scenes themselves and act out their own issues in this world of theirs. However, I did find the whole set up plausible and most importantly, a fantastic read. On another point – I’m bit confused by the series of your books in general – I have only today started looking at the others you’ve written – can you tell me what follows Wool? Looking forward to losing myself in your tales again.
The SHIFT books come after WOOL. And thanks for your kind note!
-Hugh
Thanks Hugh! I purchased the kindle edition of Wool Trilogy 1 – so is the next book Wool Trilogy 2 – which is called Shift? Does it then go onto the Shift series? Sorry to labour this point but a few websites have confused the order for me – I think it was due to the Wool and Shift series being availabile as individual books/stories and then as omnibuses.
Hugh,
I am working on my first book, and was wondering who did the cover for your first book. I can’t spend a lot.
Roger
Dear Hugh
I just finished reassino Shift 3 and I can’t wait for Dust to arrive. These are such great books with an original story and believable characters. I am an avid reader and the wool serie is probably the best one I have read in a long time.
I do believe the series is worthy of prizes such as the Hugo or Nebula because it owns nothing to great classics such and 1984 or Brace New World. Also the way the story is told, being thrown into a situation that neither we or the charachter truly understand and them figure it out with them, that was truly genius.
Hi! I have just finished Wool Omnibus! Awesome book. But when will it come out in French so I can share it with my family and friends?
Should be out in French THIS YEAR!
I can’t praise this work highly enough. As I drive through tunnels my mind flips them into silos and I wonder where all those closed doors lead. A spiral staircase in a parking garage brings me back to the crowed press of people trying to escape – how many could cram onto that particular spiral and could i survive like Silo and Shadow.
Terrific read, man I’ll be watching for Sand!
Hugh,
I’m one of those guys who could never finish a book in grade school because it wasn’t interesting to me. I read articles all day, headlines, blogs, and the like. However, WOOL was the first “book” that I’ve read cover to cover. I am a bit ashamed to admit that I didn’t take interest in The Great Gatsby or The Adventures of Hucklberry Finn, but they were forced upon me in a time in which I was infatuated with being social and “too cool for school.” Your books, my friend, have allowed me to add a book, the only book, to my resume.
I had read First Shift back before the Second and Third were released and was quite impressed with it, as well. We just arrived in Puerto Rico for a short vacation, and I found myself up until 3am reading the rest of the SHIFT series. Now I am being dragged to the beach while craving some more sleep. Thanks.
Anyway: wow. Please, I am like a fiend. More please. Excellent work, and I am a true fan. I will be watching that progress meter for DUST. is SAND after DUST? I noticed a meter for that too, but haven’t ever heard of you mentioning it.
Sincerely,
A fly inside the Silos, gripping the wall
Thanks, Jeremy! More coming your way soon.
Can’t wait, Hugh. thanks!
I must say that I havent been gripped so much by a book for years. Wool is truly a masterpiece, I can’t stop thinking about it.
I’ve just finished First Shift and have already purchased both second and third shifts on my Kindle.
This is such a fabulous concept I’d love to know if you are planning to write a follow-up to Wool itself? I really want to know what happens to Juliette, and also what happens to everyone in the future? Do they ever get to go outside safely?
Yup. That’s what I’m writing right now!
I am so happy to hear that you’re writing a follow-up to Wool! I devoured Wool Omnibus, then all the Shift books, and I’m now on the third Molly Fyde book. I have loved every minute of them all and I don’t know what I’ll do when I’ve reached the end of all you’ve written. Please hurry up and I’ll try to slow down
Your ideas and characters have been a joy. Thank you!
Hi Hugh,
Being an avid sci-fi and Fantasy fan for many years and a devotee to the likes of Asimov, A C Clark, Eddings etc I can truly say how over joyed I was to encounter such a compelling set of books that have left me longing for the next in the series to be released. It has been a long long time since I have reluctantly turned off the light in the early hours of the morning because of sore eyes to find myself turning the light back on for half hour more because of such an captivating and enjoyable read.
It is without hesitation that I say for me your Wool works are right up there with the greats and I am sure that the your fan base will grow and be as great as those of the awe inspiring sci-fi authors before you.
More strength to your pen and thanks
Hugh – Absolutely love the Wool omnibus, have given it to at least 5 friends who equally dig the series!! Am very interested in doing some t-shirt/sticker design for the incipient ‘cult world of Wool’, already have several concepts finished….How do I submit some fan artwork for your perusal?
You can email them to me: hughhowey AT gmail DOT com. You can also submit them in the forum and see what people have to say.
Thanks H – will do.
