I just started reading this series about 30 minutes ago. I am on chapter five. Thanks to my mother for getting me hooked! I must say, I love how you make it easy for the imagination to do its thing. From what I have just read, you are a very enjoyable author and I cant wait to continue reading when I wake up!!
Can I just say loved it! I read Wool 1 in one sitting! I think my mouth literally fell open at the end of it. I could not stop reading after that. One of the best, if not the best, post-apocalyptic I’ve read. I’m officially a fan!
bought the book (1-5) on amazon. read it in two days. saw the sun rise those days… one of the best post apocalyptic stories i’ve read. (sorry for one of… The Road messed me up for weeks. Though entirely different, still same genre).
Amazing book sir it has become my favorite read this year. I have already thrown out many recommendations for it. I need to get a autographed copy for my son Rearden (named from Atlas Shrugged) before you become to famous to have the time.
I would love to see a video game inspired or based off of it. Either a civilization type game or something on a different aspect. I was discussing it with a friend and heres the idea copy and pasted.
Use your future connections to make it happen!!!
Typing this on my phone so bare with me.
Doesn’t have to be mmo large but similar to day z maybe a bit bigger. World is decimated, air is toxic people driven underground to live in silos. Imagine numerous silos randomly scattered across a world. Each one a secret unless discovered. A team starts in their silo. They are multifloored and life sustaining. Generators farms hospital prison etc.
Everyone of them has a airlock leading out with security cameras around the perimeter. There’s monitors that display this throughout the silo. There’s a pc terminal to nominate and vote for a leader of the silo. This person is the keymaster. He can choose who has codes to access certain areas or leave the silo. Votes will come up every month or something. He can see who logged in where and if something goes wrong vote to jail that person. If the vote passes that person will be sentenced to the outside to die. This can keep new recruits or traitors in check. Say a silo can hold 50 people. If a new player will see a list of silos on a server. Nothing more no coordinates or population. In game email application can be sent and if approved then they will spawn there. There will be various classes and lots of different crafting roles within them.
Mechanical engineer( maintains and improves gear weapons tools etc. Improve suits air tanks etc.
The air is toxic improving these things will increase outside time etc)
Medic blah blah what medics do
IT tech this person has access to the silos network can setup cameras use/ improve underground sonar to find oil caches minerals water etc. Even develop radios frequencies strong enough to try and con tact other silos.
There will be npc vendors that’s supplies improve with improvements in the silo.( improve the hydroponics floor and get better more sustaining meals)
There will be ways to dig underground to reach resources and expand the silo. Improved metals allow for larger airtanks. You can die if you un out. Also even invade or connect to another silo.
There could also be abandoned silos already destroyed which intel can be gathered. Or even taken over.
There are item and crafting benefits for linking silos. Maybe self sustaining mobile base for Long treks.
There will be various Espionage actions the can occur. The world outside is turbulent dusty you will need to keep cameras clean of debris or maybe even cover an enemies. IT can can hack and maybe even find silos with a radar. Emp bombs etc….
just finished the Wool Omibus…loved it…and have downloaded First Shift for reading later tonight…saw that you lived in Jupiter…i am in Lake Worth…i am a retired Airline Pilot still raising one son. Adam, (two out the door) who is a communication major at Dreyfoos High School (next to the Kravis Center in downtown West Palm Beach) with aspirations of making movies…i was wondering if you would like to guest lecture at the school to the communication students…Angela Weber is the Dean of Communications and i judge for her at the high school debates which my son is participating in…i could talk to her and arrange a get-together…i am very happy for your success and look forward to reading your other novels and what you produce in the future…
Thank you so much! Just received my signed Omnibus and First Shift. My wife and I have read the Wool series on kindle, and these signed copies are hers for Christmas. You have a unique view of the human spirit and all I can say is ” keep em comin’. “
Any plans to release this book in the Google Play bookstore? I dislike having my books in multiple e-reader platforms. But if need be I will buy on Kindle app since I am very eager to read this series.
Wow! What a great read! I am pleasantly surprised to see that some great stuff is being done and that self publishing it is paying off. My best wishes for your ongoing success ( although it’s purely selfish as I can’t wait to see what you do next.)
Has anyone ordered a copy of this from the UK? or does anyone know how long it might take to get here, I haven’t had any dispatch or shipping info? getting worried as i am really excited about getting a signed edition of Wool! thanks

I’m trying to purchase an e-copy of Wool Omnibus for my Kindle, from Amazon, but it says “Not currently available”. Do you know if this is a glitch on the website, or is the title not available for purchase outside the US (I’m from Australia)?
There’s a different edition for sale in Australia. Random House is releasing a hardback there in December (before the UK gets it, in fact!). I believe it costs more, but there are some extra scenes and what-not.
Hi Hugh,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Any chance there’ll be an e-copy available? I work remote, on a minesite, and it’s so much easier to just take my kindle than to have to take loads of books each stint.
Loved the series. My husbad was complaining that I wouldn’t put my Nook down! I can totally see this as a movie, in my opinion blowing Hunger Games out of the water. Can’t wait for the follow ups! And loving that you are a fellow Palm Beach County resident
I just finished reading the Wool Omnibus on my Microsoft Surface tablet and thoroughly enjoyed it. (Yours was the first book I have read on the brand new device) Just about to buy 6 and 7 of the series. Thankyou for such a new and inventive take on the post apocalyptic genre.
Just wondering, but I had ordered a sign copy of your book from this website maybe 3 weeks ago and was wondering what the status on it might be. I live in Hawaii and was wondering if maybe there is an issue because of that.
Sorry to bother, just really looking forward to receiving it so I can read it ASAP
I remember sending that book out. It probably shipped after the Miami Book Fair, which delayed books for a few days. I don’t know how long media mail takes to get to Hawaii, but 2-3 weeks wouldn’t shock me.
Please keep me posted. If you don’t see it in another week, I’ll get a second copy in the mail to you.
I got the book alright. It’s in great condition too. Thank you for taking the effort to make sure it’s nice and padded. I recently got a supposedly new hardcover book in the mail with messed up corners and the back and front covers were bent and had crease marks… So yes, thank you for the book and signature, I look forward to reading it soon.
Thanks a bunch,
David

What a wonderful series. Well conceived, well written and well paced. I’m glad I purchased the Omnibus edition, it would have driven me crazy to only have one or two in the series knowing that the rest were out there! Like many before me, I read it non-stop in less than 2 days. I chuckled to myself at the interview with you in the end, where you said that you didn’t charge much for your books becuase you were “a nobody” I hope you know that you have made it! You are talented and you are known! I will be devouring the rest of your books as soon as I can get them delivered.
WHAT???
Can I no longer order a signed copy of Wool Omnibus via this site?
I recently received my own signed copy (gifted my original amazon paperback), and had looked forward to gifting another signed copy to a friend.
Please tell me its not true. 8|

Where is this available for purchase in print? I see Amazon has it listed, but cheapest price is $125. Then I see it’s due out in March 2013. Where are people getting signed copies from?
The print book comes out in the UK next week. Simon and Schuster is releasing the print book in the US in March. That old version is out of print and no where NEAR worth that kind of money!
Wool is incredible. Not just for the creatively crafted story or “read”, but the subtext and theme that so closely mirror our current world and society. My eyebrow raised more than once while reading this book, and my thoughts were constantly tracing back to events in my own life and world.
There’s more to this book than meets the eye. Well done.
Just finished Wool Omnibus and LOVED it. Thank you for sharing with us your glimpse of the future. It doesn’t sound far off. We need to start building these silos soon! I’m recommending your series to friends at work, and our IT department (they are also evil). Don’t stop writing.

I LOVE Wool! It is by far the best book and series I have ever read! I missed out on your book signing when you were here (I didn’t find out about it until the day after!) Is there any way to order it from you?

Thank you, Hugh Howey. Reading WOOL Omnibus was awesome. I’m so glad you published this yourself to get it out there.
I agree this would make a GREAT HBO or Showtime mini series! Our Book Club just finished reading it and are meeting tonight to discuss! First sci-fi for our group so we will see what the ladies think! I loved it and so did my husband!
Hi, I don’t understand why your omnibus version isn’t available on kindle for Australians? I’m itching to read it but really don’t want to have to buy them individually. Is there a contract with Simon and Schuster preventing the sale of the electronic version in Australia?
I got my signed copy on July 27th and finished devouring it around 5:45 am on July 31st. So much better reading it in print than on my PC screen.
Man, this story is so good. Were it not for the Kindleboards.com Writer’s Cafe, I might not have ever caught wind of this wonderful piece of writing.
Congrats, Hugh.
Just ordered me a signed copy of WOOL Omnibus. Read this about a month ago on the Kindle and LOVED IT. Best SF I’ve read in a LONG time.
Been trying to get my son to read it, but he’s a paperback purist, so this is perfect….. as long as he doesn’t spoil my signed copy!
Thanks Hugh and keep up the great work! PS – already preordered my I, Zombie for Kindle…
Tracy
Thanks, Tracy!

It should be available already. If you search WOOL on the Australia site, you’ll see a red cover that looks like it’s on fire. That’s the UK edition.
Loved the series. My husbad was complaining that I wouldn’t put my Nook down! I can totally see this as a movie, in my opinion blowing Hunger Games out of the water. Can’t wait for the follow ups! And loving that you are a fellow Palm Beach County resident
Omnibus Kindle edition not available from Amazon (UK) is it available any place else?
It’s there. You just have to search for WOOL HUGH HOWEY and find the one with the red cover. That’s the new and improved version from Random House.
If you’re looking to pre-order the hardback, that’s there as well.
Really after the Omnibus Kindle version, but failing that it’ll have to be Wool I
I think the Kindle Omnibus is also on Amazon.uk.
Pricing information not available.

Mr. Howey,
Thank you for your speedy response and excellent customer service. I very much appreciate that. I will keep you posted about the status of the book.
Thank you,

Yes, please do! I hate for my babies to not make it to their destination!

It boasts an awful lot of high-quality knowledge.
Thx ,Retha

Sorry, just discovered the other version. Phew! About to jump headlong into the wooly depths!
I don’t know why it wouldn’t be available. That makes no sense. It should be through Random House.
Great books! I’ve been telling all my friends about this series and of how hooked I am. I’m excited to see what else you have done and what’s to come.
