I just bought a copy! My husband is not happy with me since we both got Kindle’s in a push towards less clutter (ahem, all of my books from years gone past that I can’t seem to let go of even though I likely won’t read them again) but I just *had* to support you and your amazing achievement. I have been touched by the Wool books in a way that I don’t normally experience. I feel like the Omnibus deserves a special place on my book shelf where I can grab it and enjoy it again and again. Because yes, even though I just finished reading Wool 5 yesterday (or early this morning?) I feel like I want to jump back in from the beginning again. And the fact that my copy will be signed makes it all the more special! You are an incredible writer, Hugh. Thank you for crafting such an amazing world in the Wool series. I am going to be jumping into your other works as well because.. well… I just have to! I am compelled.
Wow! Thanks, Starr! I’m expecting the Omnibi to land on my doorstep on Monday (which is weird, considering I was hoping to have WOOL 5 released on the 8th! My, how time crawls when you’re a workaholic). I’ll get this out to you on the same day, so you’ll have it by the middle or end of next week.
Thanks again for the kind words, the reviews, the commenting, all the support. It’s all very much appreciated!
Very exciting! I can’t wait. I am so happy to support you & your writing. I’ve been talking about Wool to anyone who will listen. I’ve got a few friends hooked just on the idea of the series (wait until they get to the actual reading! ).
Just bought mine too. I already have them all for kindle, but this is too good to pass on the hard copy. Even buying a Kindle was hard for me because I just love looking at my ever expanding bookcase in our basement. AND now that I will own a hard copy, I can share it with my kindleless (and poor) friends! Even though I already bought you a cup of coffee (or 2), having a signed copy of Wool will be like holding gold! So excited!
I’ve ready 1-4 on my Kindle, but for 5, I figure the Wool series is special enough to finish with a physical copy enough even though our tiny house is bursting at the seams.
I’m also secretly hoping that you become famous and this rare copy will be worth thousands. If not, well, it’s still a great story.
I’ll get this out tomorrow. So excited to hear your thoughts when you hold this bad boy in your hands! Hopefully you get a chance to pass it around and hook your friends on it!
Just bought the Omnibous! I have been telling everyone I know to buy it on the kindle which is an easy task. “Hey check out this book its only $.99 and its 60 pages.” Knowing full well they will not stop after Wool 1 and all 5 will be done and paid for before I even get a review from them. But, for those who don’t have the magic device with the backlight, which a must have, I am going to have this book to “rent” to them (I’ll by you coffee of course). More importantly I wanted a hard copy, signed to show off when this thing goes to the Big Screen. When the billboards are up near the 101 in downtown L.A. I will tell my wife “See, I told ya so.”
I loved the Wool Omnibus edition. It was one of the best Sci-Fi stories I’ve ever read. Hope you keep it up. Can’t wait to hear about Wool 6. Hopefully Juliette will mine into Silo 17, and then begin to free the minds of those in other silos.
After buying and reading the kindle version, I was so in love with your Wool story that I had to learn more about you. So here I found myself , buying a physical book so I can pass among my friends. Thank you for sharing your vision with us.
Add one more to your fan list. Now I’m off to go and review on Amazon….
I’m aiming for April. The scope and scale have grown since I first laid it out. Could be pushed back to May. Take heart, though, it will be about as long as Wool 5.
I should also warn you that this will be a prequel detailing the start of the WOOL project. Wool 9 will pick up where Wool 5 (and 8) leave off.
I bought and finished the Wool Omnibus edition this weekend, after passing over it many times and I’m glad I bought it. This morning I sought out your website to see if you’ve written anything else and am glad to find you have. I’ll be ordering those next.
The first novella hooked me. It’s the rare author who creates a lot of detail fleshing out a character for the reader to sympathize with and emotionally invest in, and is not afraid to handle those characters roughly.
Then I had to know EVERYTHING. Why are those people in that silo? Who built it? Why is asking about the outside a capital offense? Why didn’t they build a freakin’ elevator?!!!
I recommended your book on the Sunday Book Thread at ace.mu.nu and I know at least a couple of them said they would pick it up.
It’s amazing that you put together such a polished piece without the benefit of a professional editor. Richly drawn world, characters you care about, and even the bad guys have a human side to make you just a BIT uncomfortable in condemning them too harshly.
Excellent book(s)! I can’t wait for more and will continue to recommend you to everyone.
Thanks, Jeff! And mega-thanks for helping spread the word. I really appreciate it.
My mother and my wife are both excellent editors, both plot editing and copyediting. And I’ve gotten better at handing them a clean manuscript. A friend of mine who does academic editing has helped out on a few books and has taught me a ton.
Finally, I get typo alerts from readers and try to fix those as soon as possible. It’s an ongoing process.
Been lurking for a while now and I thought I’d go ahead and support your work, Hugh, by purchasing a signed hard copy. After I finished the Hunger Games several months ago I was rabid to continue reading dystopian style literature. Searching the top of the Amazon lists brought me to “Wool” with its glowing reviews. The title alone peaked my interest. A few keystrokes and minutes later I had it downloaded to my Kindle Fire and began reading. One day later after finishing Wool 1, I purchased the Omnibus and never looked back…
Hell of a piece of work, bud. Easily rates as one of the top books I have ever read. I have sinced purchased and read The Plagiarist, Half Way Home, Molly Fyde and the Parsona Rescue, and just started reading Molly Fyde and the Land of Light yesterday. I had a hard time going to work this morning after I read the 1st two chapters. Didn’t want to put it down!
Anyway, just wanted to say “Thank You” for your hard work. Its nice to know there are still writers out there that really care about their fans. I check your blog daily always hoping to get “hints” on how your new books are coming along. I plan to read them all eventually. By the way, if you ever need any more beta readers I’d be glad to help.
Lastly, I know there was some talk about Wool being made into a movie. I really hope that becomes a reality as it would be absolutely amazing to see it on the big screen. If/when you decide to cast for the movie please let us know. I’m no actor (either aspiring or real) but I’d love to have the chance to cold read for the Lukas part. Really felt like I identified with that character at times. Maybe it was the nerd in me…
I just fnished reading the Wool Omnibus edition, and started looking for the next book of this incredible story. I loved it from beginning to end, I didn’t want the book to end, yet I couldn’t wait to read how it ended…. Now that is saying something. I’m no youngter, but I can say I have found your books to be the best I have read in a long time. I’m looking forward to your next Wool release… Thanks fo the hours of entertainment,….Beats watching boring TV! Marie
Just bought my signed copy, even though I live in a 150 sq. ft. apartment with no room for books. Wouldn’t want to wait until I’ve moved until a bigger place in case you stopped offering signed copies before then!
So I just had to buy a hard copy, to share with friends and family that are not yet reading electronically. Waiting (not so)-patiently for 6. Thank you for telling your stories, and thereby making the world a better place.
Bought a hard copy for my luddite friend who refuses to step into the modern age. Are you using the new Kindle version cover on the hard copies by any chance? Thought that cover was awesome.
I just heard about Wool the day before yesterday. I picked up the omnibus, read the first book, and was captivated. I’ve never had a story that short really impact me like it did. Such a powerful story in just a few pages. I’m on the 3rd book and can’t put it down.
I just wanted to say that you’ve managed to put more of an impact in 30-40 pages than entire 300+ page books I’ve read, it’s really fantastic.
I hope you write about 50 more in the Wool series, and after that I’ll still want more.

Just ordered this for my son. He is only 4 now, but I wanted to get him a signed copy. Hopefully by the time he can read it things will not have declined to this point in our society, or if they have this will pull the wool from over his eyes and replace it with another Wool that is eye-opening.
I just finished Wool Omnibus last night. It was wonderful!!! I can not wait to start reading your other books. I’ve been telling everyone I know to finish up whatever they’re reading as soon as possible, and start reading Wool Omnibus.
I just ordered a copy! I happened upon this series while browsing the Lending Library on my Kindle. Based on all the amazing reviews I figured why not give it a try. Wow! Once I started reading I could not stop! Then I was excited to see First Shift available and read that, too, and was not disappointed. I had a little extra fun with that one since I’m from Savannah. Anyway, this is the first signed copy of anything that I’ve ordered. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
Thanks, Melissa! You should be getting one of the brand-new Omnibi with the awesome cover from Mike Tabor. I hope to be unveiling them later today or tomorrow!
I have been an avid reader my entire life and can honestly say that I have NEVER read anything quite like the Wool series. An author with the ability to form reader/character bonds with just 40 pages of script is a EXCEPTIONALLY rare talent. I usually don’t make this type of lip service a habit but your books/novels deserve more praise than they are currently receiving. I have no doubts that once a broader audience is reached your talent will be recognized. Shame on B&N for not stepping up to the plate, they could have expediated the process tenfold. Forgive the terrible spelling I am just a simple man that loves to read good stuff.
I’ve been reading this in the wee hours on my Kindle. When I saw that you were offering a signed copy I just had to have one. This is a remarkable story and you are a man with real talent. I sincerely wish you all the success you deserve. It has been a pleasure reading the Wool Omnibus edition and I’m looking forward to your other works.
Just read the Omnibus on Kindle and pretty sure my stumbling across this gem is close to winning a Silo Lottery. Ordered a signed ed for my oldest kid. Reading First Shift.
Just pulled the trigger on Wool Omnibus. Already had purchased Wool 1-5 on Kindle and didn’t see need to have the Omnibus on there also. But I did see a need for a signed copy. Which I will show off to everybody who will listen to my blathering about Wool. I will continue to refer anybody and everybody to Wool. I have greatly enjoyed all of your works. Thanks.
I received my signed copy of the Omnibus last week and finished it yesterday. Just spent the last 15 minutes ordering every other HH book on Amazon. Cannot believe I’m just finding out about these books now. Amazing!
Thanks, Sarah! I hope you are entertained by the rest of my works. They are so different from each other that I’m constantly amazed by the people who dig a good chunk of them.
Just ordered my copy of the Wool Omnibus! Since devouring it on Kindle, I had to have a hard copy. If I read a library or kindle book that I adore, I always purchase the hard copy for my permanent collection. You, sir, are destined for greatness. Plus I REALLY want my Mom to read it too. I continue to encourage everyone to read your books. I am currently working my way through the catalogue. Thank you so much for sharing your gift with us.
Squealed like a little girl when my personal signed copy showed up. It is now in Mom’s hands and she’s really enjoying it. We chat about where she’s at in the book every day. It’s fun to relive it through her reactions.
Have you thought about getting a deluxe
hardback edition out from a publisher
like Subterranean press? They do a beautiful job
and seem very author friendly.
There’s going to be a hardback from Random House in January. I’ll be able to import them and sell signed copies off my website. And they won’t be too expensive.
I have been on the Wool bandwagon for a few months now since discovering you in the Kindle Lending Library. I tell anyone and everyone looking for something to read to check it out. It is so stinkin’ good, I thought I bettter pick up my own copy–and better yet, a signed one so that I can brag how I knew about you WAY before the big Hollywood studios & mainstream publishers did (and I have read that they do now)! But in all seriousness, thanks for writing such a great story. I am looking forward to the next installments!!
I just consumed Wool 1-5 on my Kindle Fire and I am starving for more. What happens next? Does Juliette succeed in running a “better” silo? What’s going on in some of the other silos? Please tell me there’s more coming! I’m a fan.
Sincerely,
Charlotte
Great series! Bought/read on kindle, bought on amazon, and now another copy from you, and probably more as gifts. So good I have the rest of your books already on the kindle app ready to read.
Thoroughly enjoyed Wool Omnibus and First Shift. Cannot wait for future books in the both series. Thank you for the wonderful characters and story. My father in law is a corn and soybean farmer – I don’t think I will ever look at his grain silos the same way again. Recommended the series to my father, who is a Mechanical Engineer and will especially appreciate Juliette’s drive, determination, and inventiveness.
Thank you Hugh!
John
An amazing piece of work. I’m thrilled I fell into it so “early” before you become completely insulated by publicists, agents, “yes men”, and the like…LOL.
I’m genuinely impressed that you are at once so talented yet so approachable. It really makes being invested in your work so much more interesting.
I’ll be built one of these for sure! Thanks for your evocative words, they are great entertainment!
Hugh, I blazed through my digital copy of the Wool Omnibus edition. I honestly couldn’t put it down. What an amazing set of stories. You handle details, suspension of disbelief, suspense and multiple interwoven plots so perfectly, I cannot imagine how this could have been any better. Gave you five stars on amazon, and I’m about to post a plug for you on FB. Wishing you MUCH success, my friend. Keep the good stuff coming. I can’t wait to read more!!!
After finishing all six books (just finished First Shift) in what I think was three days (most of it at work when I shouldn’t have) I decided I had to buy a hard copy to share and decided to pay for the first signed book I have ever gone for in my life. If you could write something nice so I can get some street cred when my friends and family love the onmibus that would be awesome. Thanks getting high enough on Amazon for it to recommend you to me. It was thoroughly enjoyable and I look forward to reading/buying the rest of your work.
P.S. This is the first authors forum/page I have ever written on and I am going to write some reviews on amazon later (also a first). Thanks again.
Hugh,
I just finished the Wool Compendium – and mentally walking up and down hundreds of flights of steps! Great Story! I loved how by writing it serially, the scope of the story was able to spiral larger and larger while remaining centered. Can’t wait to read where Wool spirals to in the future! Also, can’t wait to check out your other books! Thanks!
I just ordered my copy. I have to say I know absolutely nothing about what to expect – but your raves are amazing. I collect signed books and have for years and usually have read many books by each author before I buy one. This time, it is like the proverbial chocolate no idea what’s inside, but everyone says it’s great! Good luck with the future publications as well. Cheers!
Just finished these over the weekend, then #6 today, Great Stuff! I’m looking forward to the next.
I post a sketch every morning, to get my brain in work mode, here’s my sketch of Juliette: http://www.benjadams.com/2012/06/26/juliette/
there are a few more on prior days, and i’m sure more will come over the next few: http://www.benjadams.com/category/daily-drawings/
Again, really enjoyed these books – and will recommend them-
I just finished the Wool Omnibus and I just want to tell you how much I absolutely adore and worship your writing. Just the first paragraph of the book drew me in and never let me go. My sister had ordered the book directly from you and she’ll release a sigh of relief, and a never ending string of questions, once she learns I’ve finished. Thank you so much, and be assured you have gained two life long readers! -C
The regular book is just the first WOOL, which is a short story (about 60 pages). The OMNIBUS collects all five WOOL books together, and is around 540 pages.
Just a few minutes after finishing the first 56 pages I had to order a signed copy for the rest. Way too good to stop here…I can already tell this is one of those gems of a find that will be on my mind long after I’ve read it. Thanks for making me excited about reading again.
Just ordered the omnibus yesterday and can’t wait. The grassroots enthusiasm for WOOL is infectious and I loved your piece on HuffPo. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard of something this invariably well-received. This is a win/win: I pick up a book I’m sure to love, and feel good about supporting an indie author.
Howdy Hugh,
After blasting through the e-version of the omnibus, I’m a big fan. Working on First Shift now. I just ordered two signed editions – one for me and one for my 10 year old nephew Diego in Sarasota. Keep up the good work and I wish you the best in your future creative endeavors.
I just finished reading the Wool omnibus edition and I was thoroughly pleased with the series from the beginning. You did an amazing job crafting an intricate world with characters that I really cared about. There were many times while I was reading that I could almost feel what it must have been like for the characters to live in the Silos.
I’m glad I found the series on my Kindle when I was looking for something good to read. All of those rave reviews from other users were spot on!
You’re now on my list of top authors and I look forward to reading your forthcoming work.
I found your Wool stories on Amazon. I read the reviews and it sounded fantastic. I tried to find a hard copy locally because I didn’t want to wait for the mail, but had to settle on a Kindle version. I absolutely could not put it down! You’ve created an entire world underground with mystery and intrigue. I didn’t want it to end. Now that I’m on your website I see you’re continuing the story and I’m so glad! I have to order a signed hardcopy for my collection. Keep up the good work! Oh, and I also read Halfway Home, which was fantastic as well! I’ll have to check out everything you write.
Hey Hugh–
So, I was going to ask for a signed copy of the Omnibus for some kind of traditional, gift-giving event (holiday, birthday, other) but in my life, they unfortunately all exist between December and February.
I considered making up a NEW, “traditional,” gifting holiday…but merchandisers have been trying to make “Christmas in July” a thing for as long as I can remember…and it hasn’t really worked out.
So I bought it instead.
Because I’m impatient.
Because it is awesome.
Thanks so much!

Haha! I agree with you Markg! I hope my signed copy will be worth thousands someday too! I also need proof that I was a fan from the beginning.
A must have for getting all my non-Kindle owning friends hooked!
I’ll get this out tomorrow. So excited to hear your thoughts when you hold this bad boy in your hands! Hopefully you get a chance to pass it around and hook your friends on it!

Thanks, Leslie!
Stay tuned!
Thanks, Ariel!
I just consumed Wool 1-5 on my Kindle Fire and I am starving for more. What happens next? Does Juliette succeed in running a “better” silo? What’s going on in some of the other silos? Please tell me there’s more coming! I’m a fan.
Sincerely,
Charlotte
There’s more coming! The prequel trilogy is first, and then we return to Juliette.
Great series! Bought/read on kindle, bought on amazon, and now another copy from you, and probably more as gifts. So good I have the rest of your books already on the kindle app ready to read.
Congrats on such great work, and thanks!
–Alex
Just finished up this afternoon. Absolutely fantastic. Immediately purchased “First Shift”.
When the movie is made Juliette will be the new Ripley. She’s now my 2nd favorite female character ever. Sorry, but Arya is still number one.
I’m really so happy that I ran across this just doing a near-random search on Amazon for some new scifi to read.
Great stuff. Really great stuff.
Thanks, Randy! I didn’t see the Ripley link until Ridley Scott picked up the option. Now it’s all I see!
John
Thank you, John! Very much appreciated.
should have added that I work in IT as well
An amazing piece of work.
Hey Hugh,
After finishing all six books (just finished First Shift) in what I think was three days (most of it at work when I shouldn’t have) I decided I had to buy a hard copy to share and decided to pay for the first signed book I have ever gone for in my life.
I post a sketch every morning, to get my brain in work mode, here’s my sketch of Juliette: http://www.benjadams.com/2012/06/26/juliette/
there are a few more on prior days, and i’m sure more will come over the next few:

Again, really enjoyed these books – and will recommend them-
I just finished the Wool Omnibus and I just want to tell you how much I absolutely adore and worship your writing. Just the first paragraph of the book drew me in and never let me go. My sister had ordered the book directly from you and she’ll release a sigh of relief, and a never ending string of questions, once she learns I’ve finished. Thank you so much, and be assured you have gained two life long readers! -C
Hello! I just found about this book, but I’m a bit confused, what’s the difference between the Omnibus and the regular edition?
Which one should I buy? :S
Wow, Justin, you’re welcome! Thank you!
Thank you. Asimov would have been proud to have written the first one, but Heinlen could have claimed the series.
Hugh,
Just ordered the omnibus yesterday and can’t wait. The grassroots enthusiasm for WOOL is infectious and I loved your piece on HuffPo. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard of something this invariably well-received. This is a win/win: I pick up a book I’m sure to love, and feel good about supporting an indie author.
Looking forward to WOOL, and best of luck to you!
Jim
Thanks, Jim!
Howdy Hugh,
After blasting through the e-version of the omnibus, I’m a big fan. Working on First Shift now. I just ordered two signed editions – one for me and one for my 10 year old nephew Diego in Sarasota. Keep up the good work and I wish you the best in your future creative endeavors.
Steve
Thanks, Steve! I’ll get these out as soon as possible. It might be Monday, as my travel supply is running low. They go first-come, first-served.
Cheers!
Both have arrived. My nephew is thrilled. Thanks very much Hugh. I guess I’ll get started reading it again (once I finish Radix)!
Best,
Steve
Hello Hugh,
I just finished reading the Wool omnibus edition and I was thoroughly pleased with the series from the beginning.
-Jason
Deb
